New Delhi: Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore celebrated her 79th birthday on December 8 (Friday) surrounded by her family in Mumbai. The birthday gathering included Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, and Saba Pataudi. Sharmila Tagore’s grandchildren, Sara, Ibrahim, Taimur, Jeh, and Inaaya Naumi, were also part of the celebration. Kareena Kapoor shared photos with her mother-in-law captioned, ‘Mom-in-law’s birthday.’ Meanwhile, Soha Ali Khan posted pictures and wished, ‘Happy birthday Ammu.’

Sharmila Tagore, introduced by the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray in the 1959 Bengali film ‘Apur Sansar,’ made her entry into Bollywood with the 1964 movie ‘Kashmir Ki Kali.’ Her career flourished with successful films like ‘Aradhana,’ ‘Chupke Chupke,’ and ‘Amar Prem,’ among others. In 1969, she married the renowned cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Their family expanded with the birth of their son, actor Saif Ali Khan, in 1970, followed by daughter Saba, a jewelry designer, in 1976, and actress-author Soha Ali Khan in 1978. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passed away in 2011 at the age of 70 after battling a lung infection
