“On the latest episode of ‘Koffee with Karan’ Season 8, the dynamic duo of Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan graced the lively couch, sharing intriguing tales and amusing family anecdotes. Amidst the conversation, an unexpected revelation unfolded.

Host Karan Johar disclosed that he initially offered Sharmila Tagore the role now portrayed by Shabana Azmi in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.’ Expressing his regret, Karan stated, ‘She was my very first choice. Due to health reasons at that time, she couldn’t say yes, but it is a regret I have.’

Vaccines weren’t widespread, especially for those like me who had battled cancer. It was too risky.’ This marked the actress’s first open discussion about her cancer battle, although she chose not to delve deeply into the details.

While the filming for ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani‘ proceeded during the pandemic, Sharmila couldn’t join due to these unfortunate circumstances. However, she did meet Shabana Azmi during the shoot in Delhi.

Known for her significant contributions to Hindi and Bengali cinema, Sharmila Tagore made her return to the screen with the release of ‘Gulmohar’ on Disney+ Hotstar.”
